• 2010 Ford F-150 Air Intake System

Volant’s new Cool Air Intake™ system for the 2009-2010 Ford F-150 is the only sealed intake system that incorporates a new radiator coolant overflow tank. Why is that important? Because it allows Volant’s sealed air filter box to gain access to a larger air inlet area under the tank.

Other air intakes have heat shields around the factory overflow tank which limits the amount of air and filter surface area. Volant replaces the overflow tank, allowing your engine to breathe in larger amounts of un-restricted cold air. Combine that with a larger capacity filter box and a smooth high-flow intake tube and your F-150 can produce 18 additional horsepower and get up to a 2-mpg improvement.

Volant’s Cool Air Intake™ fits 2009-2010 model Ford F-150 pickups equipped with a 5.4L (PN19154) and 4.6L (PN19146) gas V-8 engines. Both are available with Volant’s high-flow Pro5 cotton gauze filter and , or the exclusive Donaldson PowerCore® Filtration Technology filter (PN191466) 4.6L and (PN191546) 5.4L, that’s 99.97 percent efficient, flows more air than paper element filters and lasts up to 100,000 miles without ever needing to be cleaned or oiled.

I have been using this Volant Air Intake (PN151546) with the power core filter for about two months. I am quite disappointed with this filter kit compared to others I have used in the past. First, I received a kit that the coolant tank was defective. Volant did quickly send out a new one though.

I have a 2010 F150 5.4L pickup. I did notice a slightly better response in low end and that’s it. I have not changed my driving habits, however have lost at least 1mpg since the Volant installation.

Is anyone out there having the same experience with their F150?

      Travis,
It’s hard to judge the driving habits of one person versus another. We’ve done extensive testing on this product and many F-150 owners have noticed and documented improved performance and mileage gains.

      Admin,

I live in Canada and I have a 2009 F150 with the 5.4L V8. The dealers here tell me that if I install your air intake that it will VOID my warranty. Because Volant is the only company with a sealed system this in the intake I want. I was just wondering that if I purchase your product, install it on my truck and something happens that can be traced back to the air intake will Volant be willing to uphold the ford warranty and pay for or replace anything that may go wrong due to the Volant air intake system?

Volant has never had any issues with the factory warranty or cause any issues for the warranty to be voided. This is primarily an issue with the dealership who may not want to work on any vehicle with an aftermarket component. Volant has nothing to do with factory warranties, but if you have any problem with any Volant component, feel free to contact us at 909-481-3888.

I’m looking to purchase your CAI kit and am unsure if I should add the cold air scoop along with it. I have a 2010 Harley Davidson and I don’t want to cut or modify the truck to accommodate the scoop. Is this possible?

How about the new 5.0 in the F-150? I’m in the process of buying one now.. 360 hp is great, but better milage would always help.. Got one coming?

Yes, the 5.0 system is under development now. We’re building one for a project truck that we’ll hopefully have at SEMA. We’ll announce the 5.0 system once its completed. Should be ready shortly.

I just installed my Powercore CAI kit and noticed that my hood is slightly up higher than normal on the intake side. I made sure that the air box was down all the way on the factory grommets. The other question that i have is regarding my new engine sound. Between 2000-3000 RPM’s the engine gets loud and I also noticed that there was some hesitation at lower RPM’s. The only thing that I can think of is that the rubber that the factory intake went through. Do I need to cut out a larger hole (this would make sense to me but it was not in the instructions and I followed instructions exact) or remove this factory rubber piece completely? This is the rubber that separates the rear of the headlight from the engine compartment. I also had to figure out how to mount and properly support the coolant bottle as the instructions didn’t match the holes and the bracket that came with the kit. Any help would be greatly appreciated along with confirmation that everything was installed correctly by supplying an up to date instruction sheet. Thank you.

      Hi Curtis,
If the system was hitting the hood there would be a contact mark left on the underside that you could easily see. Please recheck that and let us know. We’ve never had that problem before. The hesitation you feel is because the system is starving for air, so completely remove the rubber piece that separates the rear of the headlight from the engine compartment. This will allow more air to flow into the system. The kit comes with an L-bracket, of which the long end of the bracket attaches to the bolt under the coolant bottle closest to the engine, and the short end attaches to the box with the supplied hardware. This should help with the fitment of the coolant bottle and perhaps may be the real reason why the hood doesn’t seem to sit right. If you have any more questions, please contact us at 909-481-3888 x232. If the line happens to be busy, pleas leave a message and we’ll return your call.

There wasn’t enough room to properly develop the scoop for the 2010 models. Unfortunately it’s only available for the 2011-2012 and earlier 2004-2008 model pickups.

How much hp increase should I get on a 2008 F-150, and should I increase my fuel mileage?

We can’t really say without knowing your driving habits. In actuality, it varies from person to person and vehicle to vehicle. But on average, you can expect up to a 10-15 hp increase. Many Ford owners have commented to us that they have improved fuel economy by nearly 1 mpg.
